The theory behind it is relatively simple: if someone attacks, or the likelihood of being attacked is very high, you simply switch it on and the personal security alarm will start screaming with an impressive 120 or 125 decibels. If you are lucky enough, this will draw attention and the attacker will leave you alone.

Of course it is crucial that a person alarm cannot be stopped by an attacker. This is achieved by using a hidden switch that only the person owning it knows about. It is also crucial to understand that a personal alarm only has a certain effectiveness. It will not always deter attackers. This is why non lethal weapons are commonly used in conjunction. Personal alarms and mace pepper spray make a very good combination and are also very effective in deterring attackers from pursuing their course of action.

The personal safety alarms for personal protection are not the only way in which these can be used. Child safety personal alarms have the same basic construction, but serve a very different purpose. They are usually there to ensure that if a child gets lost; his parents will be able to locate him or her in the shortest amount of time.

Another interesting application of the personal alarm is its usage in locating a person after a catastrophe, like a hurricane or earthquake. With the recent occurrence of such events it might not be too long until these will surpass in popularity the traditional personal safety alarms, pepper spray included. Obviously this would only be true for those certain areas where this sort of event has a higher probability. The technology used by this new breed of personal alarms is inspired by that used by skiers to protect against avalanches, which contain a GPS enabled beacon, and a loud siren which goes on intermittently (in order to preserve battery power). As technology will advance more still, it is quite possible that these devices will become more and more effective.

The online market for devices such as the personal alarm has seen an explosive growth in the recent years. The offer though is slightly limited. The size of the device is constantly decreasing and so are the performances, while the prices stay relatively fair. This happens as the competition is getting more fierce by the day, with more and more manufacturers joining this promising market.

Altogether a personal alarm is a useful thing to have around. In conjunction with pepper spray it decreases your chances of getting harmed greatly and in the case of a disaster it can quite literally save your life. Of course some areas are more dangerous than others. The decision to purchase ultimately belongs to you, but it does seem a sensible thing to take precautions against these events even if the odds are relatively small.

Intruder Alarms Don't Worry Burglars!

a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_uBKjpw2tr9I/Snc4FwsMcxI/AAAAAAAAAOA/-9pWPBguSVU/s1600-h/1281fk5.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 222px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_uBKjpw2tr9I/Snc4FwsMcxI/AAAAAAAAAOA/-9pWPBguSVU/s400/1281fk5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5365819152656003858" />Professional Burglars claim an intruder Alarm does not put them of.A recent survey has found that intruder alarms do not present any difficulty to professional burglars; the reason is because homeowners often forget to set the intruder alarm or fails to lock their doors and windows properly. Despite the many improvements in home security systems if homeowners fail to use them properly there is little benefit achieved.

Almost half of the persistent burglars interviewed for a recent survey said they believed home security has improved over the last 10 years but they also felt that the improvements would not be enough to stop them breaking in. Only 20% of those surveyed said that a good security system was the most common reason they abandoned an attempted break-in, 40% said being disturbed by the homeowner was the main cause of them giving up a break-in attempt and 40% of those surveyed said they would be put off if there was a noisy dog on the premises.

67% of those surveyed said they always followed the same pattern of searching a house once they are broken in, normally starting in the main bedroom, because this is the usual place that valuables are hidden, they then cover the remaining bedrooms and the main living room, this has proved to be the most efficient way of finding valuable possessions. One interesting fact that emerged from research conducted with burglars currently serving jail sentences was that they consider children's rooms to be the least profitable to search.

The average time that a housebreaking takes is as little as 20 minutes, the average age in which the first burglary was committed was 13, and two thirds of burglars prefer to work alone. Almost all professional burglars go out with the intention of committing an offence, that is to say it is planned rather than opportunistic though obviously if a ripe target presents itself they will take that opportunity to steal.

The main motivation to commit housebreaking is as one would expect money, over 80% of those surveyed cited this as their major motivation, they would search for a suitable target judging the potential value of that home by the type of car on the drive, any obviously valuable items that can be seen through the windows, the amount of cover that was provided by such things as fences or trees, the presence of an intruder alarm or dog, and signs of owner occupation.

It should be noted that most of those surveyed said that even though they were not put off by an intruder alarm they would normally move on to an easier target if one was available, also one has to take into consideration the bravado of the people being surveyed, do remember they were all convicted burglars serving time in prison at the time of the survey.

For more vital home security tips and information about Home Security visit www.homesecuritynews.info

Home Security Tips and Advice

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 162px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_uBKjpw2tr9I/Sm-igUbKMhI/AAAAAAAAANs/DbS_Mk6gZ2Y/s400/security001.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363684357343687186" />When the topic of home security springs to mind, most people seem to think of burglar alarms and little to nothing else. Alarms can be a great way to protect your home, although they are only a small part of what makes up an effective home security system. Burglar alarms are a key to protecting your home – although there are other things you’ll need as well.

Believe it or not, the windows are actually the key to home security. Homes that have poor constructed windows tend to get broken into a lot more than homes with secure and sturdy windows. When you are dealing with your windows, you should make sure that you have tough glass and locks that fit to the windows. When you are away from home, you should always make sure that your windows are locked. Even though some windows may be hard to reach, you should always lock them. Burglars make a living out of stealing – and they will normally find a way in if they see the opening.

Along with the windows, doors are also known to be a weakness of security around the home. Doors should always be strong and sturdy, complete with tough locks that aren’t easy to force open. If you have a spare key, you should be careful where you leave it. Losing your keys can also make you a target, especially if you have anything on your key ring that reveals your home address.

To better protect their homes, most people choose to invest in a home surveillance system. These systems are great for monitoring the home, as they can record video and keep it stored for you to view later. If you travel a lot, a home surveillance system can be an ideal way to keep a check on your home while you’re away.

Guard dogs are also common with home security as well. A guard dog can protect your home from burglars, thieves, and other types of trouble. Guard dogs can be very handy to have around, as most dogs are more than capable of scaring away trouble with their bark. The only downside to guard dogs is the fact that you’ll need to train them and ensure that they always have food and water.

Last, but certainly not least are burglar alarms. Burglar alarms can be effective to an extent, although they are primarily good for scaring thieves away. If you put an alarm in a visible location from the outside of the home, most burglars won’t even attempt to enter your home. Even though burglar alarms are great for scaring off thieves – you’ll still need to have other areas of your home safe and secure as well to get the most of your home security.

The Complete Guide to home security, locks, alarms systems, and security camera systems designed to protect homeowners. Finding romance is now easier than ever. That’s the good news. The bad news, of course, is that with ease also comes an increase in falling prey to dangerous situations. However, the dangers can be lessened or avoided by following some basic safety tips. Here are 10 such safety tips which can help make your online dating experience fun, positive and, above all, safe.

1) Stick with reputable online dating services. Don’t go with a service you’ve never heard of just because it’s free or cheap. Check to see how well they screen their potential members. A dating service which screens their members is often safer than those which don’t.

2) Set up an email account that you use only for dating services or chatting online such as Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail. Never use your personal or work email for online dating.

3) Until you really get to know the person, never divulge personal information that will make it possible for someone to locate you.

4) You should immediately cease communication with people who seem obsessed with acquiring personal information about you.

5) Be aware when talking to any potential date of the following danger signs: getting angry for no apparent reason; possessiveness; elusiveness in answering direct questions; inconsistencies in information about themselves; disrespectful remarks; request for any financial information from you. These could all be potential red flags.

6) Take it slow before you agree to meet the other person. Have several conversations on the phone with the potential date so you can detect any of the above warning signs before you agree to meet face to face. If the other person tries to push you into a meeting too quickly, you might consider moving on.

7) Don't give your home phone number at first. When calling the person either call from a pay phone away from your neighborhood or block your number when calling.

8) When agreeing to meet for the first time, agree to meet in a public place with plenty of people around. Never invite a stranger into your home or to pick you up from your home. Always tell a friend or family member of your first meeting plans. You may also ask someone to call you while you’re on your first meeting/date to check up on you.

9) Limit the amount of alcohol you have on your first face-to-face meeting. Alcohol can lower your inhibitions and alter your judgment. In addition, no matter what you’re drinking, don’t ever leave your drink unattended during the date.

10) Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right about the person or situation, end the communication or date immediately. You owe no one an explanation when it concerns your safety.

You may think all the above precautions take all the fun out of online dating. However, there’s nothing fun about getting tangled up with a dangerous person. Following basic safety precautions just helps insure that the wonderful person you’re seeking is the wonderful person you end up with.

Shari Hearn is a writer and creator of Safety Tips 411, where you'll learn about such things as hidden security camera products.

Why hire home security professionals?

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 162px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_uBKjpw2tr9I/SlKFJkMBYtI/AAAAAAAAAL0/RBv-YZbR84o/s400/security001.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355489306276356818" />Why hire home security professionals?
Security has always been a top concern among homeowners especially those who have valuable property to protect. It is best to be prepared for any eventuality by having home security protection rather than be sorry for failing to install one when someone has already broken inside the home.

Anyone who is concerned about home security protection should research on the different home security products and systems that are available on the market. Knowing which home security products will work best for the type of home it's going to be used in will make any expenses for the home security well worth it.

However, the homeowner shouldn't rely on his own judgment as to which among the various home security products will work best with his home. He should also ask the advice of home security professionals because they are the people who are most knowledgeable about home protection.

Home security professionals will help the homeowner choose from the various home security products that have flooded the market. A layman would be so confused with all the available home security products and he wouldn't be able to make the best judgment as to which of these products should be bought.

Consulting a home security professional will make the job easier for anyone because home security is the forte of these people. They are always on the lookout for new home security products that aren't only affordable but efficient.

Getting a home security professional who will take charge of installing the home security product in a certain home will help a lot in lessening the insurance for such abode. Furthermore, a home security product chosen and installed by a home security professional will always make the homeowner more secured in the thought that a professional did the job.

Home security professionals have the experience and the proper training so they will be more suitable for the job of installing a security system for any home. Some of these people can also get home security products for a lesser amount than if the homeowner himself bought the product.

However, the homeowner must first research on the qualifications and the reputation of the home security professional he will be hiring. He can also ask referrals from his friends who have already hired home security professionals.

Hiring a home security professional as a consultant to any home security project would entail costs but if the homeowner is serious about his home security then this is the best way to go.

The above article was written by Sarah Miller on behalf of a buzzing online Remodeling Contractors community where homeowners easily and painlessly find the right contractor for their home improvement projects and in turn, contractors can find the right Home Improvement Leads! Contrary to popular belief, the primary cause of it is not because more people are online since the crime of identity theft is not limited to online transactions or online banking. But it is caused by people not paying attention to the contents of sensitive information that they receive, online or offline, and not guarding that information with the care that it deserves.

Would you throw your banking account numbers with password and security codes into a trash can without shredding them first? Dumpster diving to retrieve information just like this has been a popular pastime for many thieves, and many of them are being rewarded for their efforts by being able to get enough private information about you to where they can open new accounts and get new credit cards in your name, but have the actual cards sent to a fake address somewhere. The first time you become aware of it is when a bank you have never heard of calls you and asks when you are going to start making payments on an overdue credit card account that is charged to the hilt, and you did not even know it existed!

It is even worse if you do things online. That is not to say that you should not do things online or shop online, but at the same time, you need to be smart about how you do things so that you do not leave yourself wide open as a potential target for these identity theft thieves. Most of this is just common sense if you think about it, but we should look at some of these things so that you can think twice about the next time you see it.

Never open an email attachment from someone you do not know. It may say it is from your late Uncle Fred about the money he left you in his will, it may claim to be from the IRS, or it may even claim to be from your Internet service provider or your bank. Do not open it. Even if you have the latest anti virus software, sometimes things can get past that software.

Never click on a link in an email from someone you do not know. The email could claim to be from the phone company or your bank or your stock broker or whatever, but never click on a link, which will typically ask you to verify your account information. They would never ask you to verify your account information this way. If you are wondering about it, call them on the phone and ask, but never click that link.

You know all that mail you get (not email, but regular postal mail) that contains those pre-approved credit card offers? What do you do with them? Do you just throw them in the trash? Those offers frequently have more than enough information to where someone who is dumpster diving can get that pre-approved card that was offered to you. Go to your nearest office supply store like Best Buy or Office Depot and get yourself a shredder, then shred those documents before you throw them away to avoid this type of situation.

Identity theft is not a pleasant experience, and if you do not check your credit report every now and then, it could be several months before you realize anything is amiss, at which point the thief is long gone. The best offense is a great defense, and that old saying applies to protecting your information against identity theft as much as anything else.

Are you protected against identity theft? Remember mace is a name brand not a pepper spray. The product is as equal as any other name brand other than the components in it. Really not a good choice to buy for the reason 99% of mace brand pepper spray does not have oleoresin capsicum which is the leading ingredient that needs to be looked for when buying pepper spray. Pepper spray is a non-lethal chemical agent which is used in riot control, crowd control and personal self-defense, including defense against dogs. The active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin, which is a chemical derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus, including chilies. Pepper spray is also known as OC spray (from "Oleoresin Capsicum") or OC gas.
When considering which pepper spray is most effective, one must consider the percentage of pepper being used and the heat rating of that pepper (measured in Scoville Heat Units or S.H.U.). Now most people hear all the time police strength from many different vendors when shopping around and notice from site to site that that there many different name brands along with different scoville heat units and percentages of pepper. The highest out there in scoville heat units is 5 million but only has 2% pepper in it. That is what most law enforcement use and is also considerably higher in price because most shoppers think they have the best since law enforcement use it. Not true at all.
What you will see here is two different name brands of pepper spray. Streetwise and Wildfire pepper spray that are the markets leading pepper spray. We have other brands like mace brand but mace does not compete with these two which is why we do not offer them anymore. Mace brand is mostly 10% pepper without O.C. in them and the retail prices are way to much for something less along with most does not know the heat units in them. If your asking what’s so important about the oleoresin capsicum. If you take someone who is wigged out on drugs or very intoxicated and/or has been through some type of chemical warfare in the military the pepper sprays with out O.C. might have very little affect if any at all on them.
The reason the oleoresin from the capsicum plant has been added was to over come any and all attackers to help assure your defense be greater. The leading seller is the streetwise by far and has been for quite sometime now. It has all the ingredients and equals the pepper spray law enforcement use. It has the oleoresin capsicum and 2 million scoville heat units along with 17% pepper. I understand the police strength has 5 million scoville units but also only has 2% pepper in it. That’s what makes it equal in the streetwise pepper spray is the 17% pepper. Now the wildfire has 3 million scoville units and has 18% pepper which makes this the leading brand amongst all pepper spray but the prices are quite a bit higher.
If your wanting the markets best it is the wildfire if your willing to pay the price for it. I find the prices are not worth it considering the streetwise are definitely strong enough to take down the biggest man. I know personally how strong the streetwise is and for the price compared to the wildfire is definitely the better buy. My thoughts on why they would make it hotter is to be better than the leading market for sales. Either choice you make between the two are great choices and you won’t be making a wrong one.

My name is Jared Kelley owner of Diamond Grade Marketing and I have been in the internet business for over three years now. In this article I am going
to address preventative steps to protect your home from being
unlawfully entered. What is home invasion? Home invasion is where
someone enters a dwelling with the intent to commit a felony,
larceny (theft), or assault. In most cases these criminals look
for easy opportunities or in other words look for the path of
least resistance. In fact it is stated that statistically a home
invasion criminal will not at the most spend more then two
minutes attempting to break into a home. By understanding this,
your best defense is to create a path of great resistance. Here
are some suggestions to securing your home.

Install deadbolt locks. The downside of deadbolt locks is that
the deadbolt goes into the wood jam, which makes up the doorway.
Because most doorway jams are about three quarters of an inch
think, the deadbolt bolt is not long enough to penetrate into the
stud. A good kick or two and that door is going to fly open
causing the door jam to split. During my time as a Police Officer
I had to kick open a few doors and it's not all that hard to do.
The alternative is to get steel jams. The steel jams will not
splinter like wood thus making it very difficult to kick in the
door. I have also had my experiences attempting to kick in a
steel jammed door, in which I was unsuccessful. We usually had to
use a battering ram, or have the Fire Department come and pry the
door open. This took some time and caused a lot of commotion
something a criminal is not going to waste their time doing.
Unfortunately installing steel jams on all your exterior doors is
a costly proposition. However in researching this article I came
across a company that does have an excellent alternative. What
they provide is a steel plate called "Strike Master II" it's about
five feet long and easily installs on the door jam. It is
installed on the side of the door jam that the doorknob and
deadbolt secure to. By installing their product you in a sense
have just created a steel jam but without any of the high cost,
or extensive labor. For more information about all their products
you can find their website on the resources page of
http://www.crimeawareness101.com

Patio doors are another entryway that needs to be secured. Many
people do not realize that some patio doors can be lifted up
slightly and disengage from their locking mechanism. This is
especially true for patio doors that are a few years old and the
jams have expanded. An easy and cheap way to secure a patio door
is to put a pole in between the patio door end and the wall.
Place the pole on the track where the patio door slides when
opening up. This will prevent the patio door from being opened
until the pole is removed. You can use an old broom stick handle
or even a board. You want to cut it to the same length as the
open track area when the patio door is closed. To keep the door
from being lifted up and removed you can install a flat headed
metal screw into the top of the patio door frame one should be
about six inches from the edge and one in the middle. Make sure
the screw is just above the door so that it will not interfere
with the door sliding open or close. You can also purchase
products, which have been specially designed for patio door
security such as patio door security bars, patio door pins, and
patio door locks, etc. You can find these items at your local
hardware store. The same thing goes for your windows make sure
they are locked and secured the same way.

Note: be careful when you are installing anything, which
requires you to drill into your patio doorframe you could damage
the door, or break the glass. If you are not that handy I would
recommend you hire a contractor to do the work for you.

Lighting is an excellent deterrent to criminal activity at night.
I recommend if possible installing outside lighting on motion
detectors. That way the lights will go on when motion is detected.
Many times they will detect small animals or some other thing and
go on. Just because they go on doesn't necessarily mean there is
someone there. But having them go on is a good deterrent if
someone was. Like stated above thieves don't want to make a
scene, and they surely do not want a light shining on them. If
possible, it is suggested that you install floodlights on each of
the four corners of your home. That way you could have perimeter
lighting with motion detectors watching all sides of your home.
When purchasing a motion detector spend the extra few dollars and
get one of good quality.

Home alarm systems are also becoming popular and are a good
deterrent. If you get just an audible alarm that will help, but I
recommend that if you are getting an alarm system, get one that
has a service that monitors your home and will contact the proper
authorities when the alarm goes off. If someone does enter your
home you want the police to be notified as quickly as possible.
Also make sure your alarm company knows which police department
to contact for your jurisdiction. We had numerous calls for police
service from alarm companies whose customer's residence was
outside of our jurisdiction, this caused unnecessary delays in
police response. If you do get an alarm make sure to put the
notification stickers on the doors that state "This home is
protected by..." A would-be criminal might see those stickers and l
ook for a house that isn't alarmed.

When going on vacation I recommend you have a friend of family
member (someone trustworthy) to stay in your home while you are
gone. If that is not possible have a neighbor, friend, or family
member keep an eye on your home and come by daily to take in the
mail and any newspapers you have delivered. They should also do
a daily walk around the house and check to make sure all windows
and doors are secure. We have had people go away for a couple
weeks only to come back and find there home broken into. Later
it was determined that their home was broken into only a couple
days after they left. The rest of the time it sat wide open to
the elements of weather, and possibly another thief.

If you do not have anyone available to check your home, and take
in your mail, you can have your mail held for you at the post
office. You can do this online at
http://dunsapp.usps.gov/HoldMail.jsp

Remember the more difficult you make it to get into your home the
less likely you are of being a Home Invasion victim.

For more information of Home Invasion and what you can do check
out the book "Crime Awareness 101"

Stun Gun Flashlights Offer All in One Protection

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 160px; height: 160px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_uBKjpw2tr9I/SkI5rNF7uyI/AAAAAAAAAHA/Hj_YGEcxt0g/s320/a+athumbnailCAU52GOG.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350902721681275682" />
Every citizen deserves the right and should have a method of self-protection for themselves and their family. However, for every person’s method, there are varying needs as no two people’s needs are the same. As a result, the market has been flooded with products and services that can often overwhelm a person when making a choice for self-protection.

It is important, when deciding which method of self-protection, what your own needs are forefront in your mind. Consider what the tool can do for in specific, rather than simply how effective it is for everyone. Remember, your need to defend yourself will become increased as you become more vulnerable and if you are involved in an attack, you will need access to an easy and dependable self-defence tool.

Many of the self-defence tools on the market don’t plan for the most obvious danger – night time and complete darkness. However, there is one of the most effective and innovative self-defence tools designed to protect you from danger. What will you do if an attacker threatens you in the dark? Nothing will scare your attacker away more than a piercing light and a stun gun!

The Stun Gun Flashlight combines the powerful strength of the stun gun with the voltage output of a bright beaming light – it can create a very disturbing display and packs a lot of power.

Rechargeable stun gun flashlights have been helping emergency response units such as police, fire, military, and security, to protect and serve throughout the United States for some time. The stun gun flashlight contains a very powerful, bright halogen beam. When emergency personnel use the stun gun flashlight, it is because their back-up units were unable to make visual contact with the offender. Just imagine having a self-defence tool that emergency personnel responders use and having it right away.

The Stun Gun Flashlight has many different features that make it the ultimate self-defence tool. There are three levels of protection: the alarm, the light, and the stun gun. The halogen flashlight bulb is several times brighter than an ordinary flashlight, as it is quite easy to blind someone and make it visually difficult for them. If the alarm or light is not a strong deterrent enough, the stun gun feature will make your attacker think twice.

An added feature is that the recharge chord on the flashlight will enable you to save your money on batteries. Most importantly, however, the stun gun flashlight will help protect you and your family from any intruder.

Whether you are interested in a stun gun flashlight, or simply are interested in gathering information for a future purchase, it is important to find reputable merchants. The number of burglars, muggers, auto thieves, robbers, purse snatchers, etc. is growing at an alarming rate. Now you, as a resident, working with neighbors can help reduce the crime rate.

How? By organizing and/or joining a neighborhood program in which you and your neighbors get together to learn how to protect yourselves, your family, your home and your property. Working together, you can get the criminals off your block and out of your area.

There’s safety in numbers and power through working with a group. You’ll get to know your neighbors better, and working with them you can reduce crime, develop a more united community, provide an avenue of communications between police and citizens, establish on-going crime prevention techniques in your neighborhood, and renew citizen interest in community activity.

'Citizens Safety Projects' are set up to help you do this. It is a joint effort between private citizens and local police. Such programs have been started all over the country. Maybe one already exists in your community.

These organizations don’t require frequent meetings (once a month or so). They don’t ask anyone to take personal risks to prevent crime. They leave the responsibility for catching criminals where it belongs - with the police. This is NOT a 'vigilante' group!

These groups gather citizens together to learn crime prevention from local authorities. You cooperate with your neighbors to report suspicious activities in the neighborhood to keep an eye on homes when the resident is away, and to keep everyone in the area mindful of the standard precautions for property and self that should always be taken. Criminals avoid neighborhoods where such groups exist.

Through cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, some of the things you will learn - and all free - are:

1. What to do in an emergency.

2. How to best identify a suspicious person.

3. How to identify a vehicle being used in a suspected criminal activity.

4. Signs to watch out for before entering a house or apartment that may be in the process of being burglarized.

5. What to do in case of injury.

6. What to do about suspicious people loitering on your street.

7. How to identify stolen merchandise.

8. How to recognize auto theft in progress.

9. How to protect your house or apartment.

10. How to recognize a burglary in progress.

11. How to protect yourself and family - and much more.

It’s easy to get your group started. All you have to do is contact your neighbors and arrange a date, place and time for the first meeting. Hold the meetings at your home or that of a neighbor. Try to plan a time that is convenient to most of your neighbors - preferably in the evening.

Then call your local police department. They will be happy to give your group informal lectures, free literature - and in many instances, window stickers and I.D. cards. Remember, police officers can’t be everywhere. Your cooperation with them is for the benefit of you, your family, your neighbors and your neighborhood.

HOW TO GUARD AGAINST PURSE SNATCHERS

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 145px; height: 108px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_uBKjpw2tr9I/Sj8NvPlyjlI/AAAAAAAAAGk/tYXz9TVk-oo/s320/a+1a1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350009987629485650" />
Purse snatching is a crime of opportunity. You can eliminate that opportunity. Every female carrying a purse is a potential target. Senior citizens are especially susceptible to these criminals since they may not be readily able to defend themselves and pursue their assailants.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Purse snatching is a crime that can be easily prevented when you take away the opportunity from the thief. Most purse snatchers are juveniles under the age of 18, who are waiting for the next opportunity. When you hide the 'prize' you protect yourself!
Suppose you are going shopping and waiting for the bus. You are by yourself and your purse is exposed and in open view. You already made two mistakes - you’re alone and your purse is vulnerable. Frankly, your personal safety might depend on NOT clinging to that purse, even though it seems a normal way to protect the contents. Grabbing and shoving that may take place can result in being injured. There are ways to protect yourself, however.
SHOP WITH A FRIEND, TRAVEL TOGETHER
The first precaution you can take is to go shopping with a friend - man or women. You’re safer when in the company of someone else. If you must be out at night alone, stay in well-lighted areas. Walk close to street lights, staying well away from dark corners, alleys and building entrances.
HOW TO OUTSMART THE PURSE SNATCHER
When carrying a purse, women should have only 3 or 4 one dollar bills placed inside. Credit cards, currency, driver’s license, keys and jewelry should be carried in a coat or sweater pocket, or concealed on your person to reduce the opportunity of large losses. If you carry a purse, don’t wrap the strap around your shoulder, neck or wrist. If your purse is grabbed, a strong strap will not yield easily and you may be injured. Some purse snatch victims have been thrown down and have received concussions and broken bones. Never carry anything more valuable than you can afford to lose. Always leave all unnecessary credit cards at home. When you shop and carry a purse, place it in your shopping bag. Never leave your purse on a store counter or in a grocery shopping cart - even for a moment.
DON’T CARRY WEAPONS THAT CAN BE USED AGAINST YOU!
You should carry a police whistle and a small flashlight on your key chain where they’re readily available. Make a habit to carry your key chain in a pocket - NOT in your purse. And you should NEVER put your name and address on your house keys or car keys. This is simply a way of telling the thief who you are and where you live!
CALL THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY!
Most victims are attacked from behind. They don’t get a good look at the attacker. And when a juvenile gets away with it once, he’ll try it again. If attacked, call the police immediately. Try to remember all details - help your police help you!
<img width='1' height='1'
